The formats row deserves emphasis. Citation analysis across engines consistently shows list-based and comparison content winning disproportionate citations for commercial queries. A single-product page rarely gets cited for "best X" questions no matter how well it ranks — engines want sources whose format matches the question's shape.
Where does content that ranks fail to get cited?
Three common gaps. First, buried answers: the page answers the question in paragraph twelve after a long intro; engines extract from the top. Second, vague language: superlatives without numbers give the engine nothing quotable. Third, single-angle content: a page about your product answers "what does [product] do" but not the comparative questions buyers actually ask AI. Ranking is necessary but not sufficient.
